Two witnesses aged 18+ will be required. We will provide them in case you are arriving alone.

Both parties must be physically present in Zanzibar at least two days prior to the wedding to finalize preparations and meet with the Registrar. You should bring all original documents with you for verification purposes.

The following copies of required documents should be submitted minimum 21 days before your wedding date. This period allows for the mandatory public notice of your marriage. There is a late fee in case we receive the documents later.

  1. Clear Passport Copy (page with photo and data only)
  2. A notarized copy of your Birth Certificate
  3. Certificate of No Impediment or Affidavit of Single Status In case that you are not able to provide no impediment certificate, you may sign affidavit of single status at a notary/lawyer.

  5. Divorce decree or death certificate (if applicable)
  6. Name-change documents (if applicable)

All documents must be in English or a certified translation is required. Our team will assist in all local procedures, ensuring all requirements are met.

AFTER THE WEDDING

After the ceremony, you will receive a Tanzanian Marriage Certificate. For international recognition, an International Certificate of Marriage will be arranged. This process may take up to 60 days and includes submitting the required forms to the Registrar of Marriages and ensuring the certificate is legalized by the Tanzanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Our team will handle all the necessary steps to ensure your marriage is fully recognized in your home country. After the wedding, you receive from us an International Marriage Certificate, legalized by the Tanzanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs by DHL. Once received, you can register it with your local authority (municipality, embassy, or registrar).

Symbolic ceremony:

Many couples choose a symbolic, beach ceremony, instead of legal one and complete their legal marriage in their home country. This avoids paperwork and translation. It is equally exotic, romantic and beautiful.

Same-sex weddings:

Same-sex marriages are not legally recognized in Zanzibar, or mainland Tanzania. Couples may still do a non-legal symbolic ceremony at private venues.
